It was a long wait but yesterday Judge David Peeples officially called Martin Cuellar the winner in the race for sheriff.
But today a local official says he isn't done dealing with the election and has now called for an investigation.
Our Annette Garcia joins us now with that story.
Webb county democratic chair Sergio Mora ...announcing today that the attorney general is now involved and an investigation is underway.
Mora expressed concern of the may 1st recount that resulted in a 170-vote discrepancy.
Those concerns lead him to ask the secretary of state for an investigation into why there was a huge difference in numbers.
He says it was the secretary of state that also realized his concern and turned the investigation over to the attorney general.
There is no word as to when the investigation will be completed but Mora says he hopes voter confidence will be restored.
“Especially before the important November elections coming on. We have to make sure we restore the publics faith so they come out and vote in November and don’t stay home because they don’t trust the system.”
Sergio Mora says the next step is meeting with the elections committee and discussing all the issues that were problematic throughout the election like electronic voting machines republicans voting as democrats and so forth.
He says all will be addressed in the next few weeks and seek for a flawless process in November.
We will bring you more as the investigation develops.
