By Ray Gomez

Environmentalists are still trying to kill off the Carrizo cane along the riverbanks and they're taking matters into their own hands.

Environmentalists are taking matters into their own hands.
They’re planning on chopping down the Carrizo...letting the native vegetation breath.
“It's continuing to grow and take over places, it's destroying habitat or native or native animals it's out competing native plants.”
The indigenous plants would be allowed to grow big and tall ...forming canopies for shade… one of the few weaknesses against Carrizo.
“Dr. Earhart says if you allow native trees to grow canopies and form shade the Carrizo cane doesn't grow.”
Doctor Jim Earhart is leading an experiment where he wants people to see that the shade from the trees will keep the Carrizo from growing it's part of the plan to keep Carrizo from coming back...
Right now the focus is on getting rid of a menace...which is robbing river of native plants and trees.
They're asking people to come by and help cut the Carrizo this Saturday morning at eight sharp.
People are meeting at the science center at the LCC.
