Watermain break turns street into "ultimate splash park"

By Ray Gomez

The rain did cause some problems tonight in central Laredo...
A water main break adds even more mud to a heights area neighborhood.
Around five this evening many residents looked out their window to find water gushing well over 30 feet in the air ... Leaving behind a big mess.
For many kids ... It's been the ultimate splash park.
And tonight ...crews continue working on a water main break that some called quote.... ot of this world...
“Me and my brother thought it was smoke and we said come on lets go fast.., we come running and it was water and I took of my shoes and socks and came.”

A water main break ... Causing some problems for city crews ... But bringing excitement for kids.
Dozens of kids ... Dancing in the streets ... Over what their parents thought was rain falling on the rooftops.

“De repente saleo el aqua con mucha presion pariba.”

She says just suddenly the water shot up in the air.

“Residents say this has been going on for about 2 hours and finally crews are beginning to work on the problem ... bringing much relief for some homeowners in the area.”

Neighbors watched in disbelief as one house was pounded with water ... leaving the residents ... peeking from inside.

‘Imaginese la seniora ... no mas se asoma y se asoma pero no sale ... anda bien desesperada.’

Just imagine ... She says ... That woman just looks but cant leave ... She doesn’t know what else to do.
And some say this isn’t the first time streets give out and water main breaks follow in the area every time it rains.
“This is proof... this is proof... and the city doesnt listen to me.”
“My tenants called me ... water and rocks were flying into the parking lot they had to remove all cars from the parking lot.”

But are glad at least in some way ... Attention has been brought to the issue.
“No, no this is out of this world.”
Some people say a car driving over Corpus Christi street caused it to collapse in the rainy weather.
Water was cut off to the area.
City crews continue repairing that six-inch main ... And hope to have the problem fixed in the next few hours
