"A lot of people have turned out this morning to help donate school supplies for our students in need."
It was all part of the 2nd annual “Stuff The Bus” event where people were asked to donate supplies for the upcoming school year.
UISD Public Relations person, Roni Cantu says whenever they ask the community to help the students out, they get an overwhelming response. We spoke to one shopper who donated a couple bags of school supplies.
"Everybody should help if they can afford to help." "We all live here. You should support your community."
It wasn't just Greenville who donated, people coming in to do their grocery shopping were greeted by H-E-Buddy displaying a basket of school supplies all under a dollar.
"Buy whatever school supplies they think our students would need whether it be a folder, spiral, pen or pencils."
Some families even brought gently used uniforms which Cantu says are greatly needed for those families that can't afford to buy them. But more importantly, Cantu says she is grateful for the items donated so students will be prepared to start a brand new school year.
"With the donations that are being given, it means that our students are going to be ready for the first day of school which begins August 27th and for the rest of the year."
