It's been a bloody few hours in our sister city. Yesterday, Nuevo Laredo was paralyzed by blockades as drug cartel members carjacked vehicles to put barriers between them and Mexican soldiers. The gunfire could be heard all over the city, especially in those blocked off areas. Now several Mexican newspapers are reporting that at least 31 people were killed including several soldiers who were in hot pursuit of cartel members yesterday.
Nuevo Laredo authorities will not confirm any deaths from the shootings. Nuevo Laredo journalists don't report cartel killings unless they're ordered to do so. They were allowed to report the execution of a man who was found dead with a message lying next to a public monument in the early morning hours of Thursday.
