There have been some major changes this year in the Laredo Independent School District.
Changes LISD police say have had a positive impact on campus crime.
"It has also helps us out knowing who the students are because of the standard dress code."
LISD police chief David Medina says school uniforms make the students stand out from the crowd.
"We don't have trasspasses on campus anymore because they will stand out with dress code."
And when it comes to close campuses, they can keep a closer watch of student behavior.
"It's easier for us that way because of the past they used to leave the campus and that is where assaults happened two or three blocks away from campus."
Last year in a period of three months there were 78 criminal cases reported.
This year in a period of three months there has been only 34 cases reported.
In total last year there were four hundred to five hundred cases of kids getting into trouble.
This year a lot fewer are expected.
The violations range from assault, disorderly conduct and dress code.
Police say close campuses are helping them to take control of the situation.
"Our attendance has improved from last year. Even our tardies...we close our gates after the second bell. We take names of who is late and take them to the office."
LISD police say the students were very apprehensive about having a close campus because they would lose their freedom, but now they've started to get use to new rules.
"They were not happy in the beginning but they've gotten used to that everything is inside.”
Medina says they hope to decrease the number of criminal cases on campus for this year.
So far since school started they have only seen 34 cases.
