Fear of a deadly flu outbreak has left normally busy streets in Mexico City nearly empty today.
And with two confirmed swine flu outbreaks just north of San Antonio, local officials are warning people to take precautions, fearing that the new strain of flu could be headed to Laredo.
Our Annette Garcia has all of the details for us tonight.

”We’re in touch in Atlanta … office of disease control... and making contact with
Monitoring schools ... and hospitals.... Laredo officials ...taking action in tracking a deadly flu virus that has spread in Mexico City ...killing dozens ... and leaving thousands more infected.
Just north of San Antonio two cases have been confirmed ... and officials fear the swine flu may be heading from both directions ... to Laredo.
Flights coming into the international airport include two from Mexico City each day.
Travelers are now being put on high alert.
“There’s been an alert issued for travelers going to Mexico City specifically to take necessary precautions.”
The new strain of swine flu ... is said to be a mixture ... of pig ... human ... and bird flu.... that causes symptoms like cough ... runny nose... sore throat ... vomiting... and diarrhea.
Officials of the world health organization say it has pandemic potential.
Local officials ... however ... say Laredoans shouldn't be too alarmed.
“What I don’t want to do is start a panic.”
But do say being extremely cautious is key to making sure people here at home aren't faced with the same situation.
“We’re monitoring it very very carefully and responding to whatever needs come up.”
