Food Bank prepares for 3rd annual "Empty Bowls" benefit

By Ray Gomez

A local organization is looking to fill the bowls of those in need this august.
The South Texas Food Bank held a press conference at the LEC today to announce their third annual Empty Bowls fundraiser which they are calling an empty bowls plus.
Bowls are decorated and autographed by celebrities, artists, and local personalities and auctioned off at the event.
Some highlights include bowls from Academy Award winning actor, Robert Duvall, singer Enrique Iglesias, and comedians Cheech and Chong.
In addition to the silent auction, the food bank will be honoring Arturo N. Benavides senior for his work and dedication to the food bank.
This year, empty bowls organizers have added a huge plus to the line-up with 70's rock band America to take the LEC stage to perform.
The band is known for hits like "A horse with no name" and "Sister golden hair".
Tickets for the event are one hundred dollars per person per table, and include dinner.
Or if you choose to attend the concert only, you can purchase tickets from ten to twenty five dollars.
All of the proceeds from the evening will go directly to helping the eighteen-thousand Laredo families in need.
