Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! Laredo named "happiest city" by men's magazine

By Ray Gomez

If you're looking for happiness you may want to start in your own backyard.
According to men's health magazine...
Laredo is the happiest city in the nation.
"Big time happy. You know?
Could laredoans be holding the secret to happiness?
According to men's health magazine, we just might.
A.B. Barrera, Senior Partner, PMDG Marketing
"I think one of the things that makes Laredo one of the happiest cities is the culture, the family. It's the tradition."
Men's Health magazine made an extensive search for the 20 happiest cities in America and, lo and behold.
Laredo came in at number one.
Fernando De Haro, Laredo Resident
"Yes, I agree with that. We're really happy here in Laredo. I mean, we're more calm down here...we're not running, like, everyday. So yeah, I think we're happy, yeah."
Happy?
Maybe.
The survey was based on sales of anti-depressants or the lack thereof.
And was also based on the number of suicide rates recorded.
But the article did take other factors into account...
Like family and tradition.
"It's based on a number of different factors. But one of the things that were mentioned was family; and that's one of the things that people look at. Obviously, you look at Laredo, which is situated along the U.S./Mexico border, and we do have a certain level of poverty, per se, but regardless of that, Laredo has a very strong commitment to family and culture. I think, at the end of the day, that's the message that we're trying to communicate with the rest of the world."
This article actually appeared in Men's Health magazine a while ago.
But local leaders say they want to happily get the word out for those who might have missed it.
