Ensuring the safety of local children

By Ray Gomez

Several organizations put their efforts together to ensure the safety of local children.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Society services headed the event held today.
Several families from as far as Zapata, Hebbronville, and Freer began lining up early to have their car seats inspected and in many cases switched out for a new one.
Organizers say new laws may require that children ride in booster seats.
They say the goal is to share valuable information with parents and family members.
Maria Elena Guzman, Organizer
“It feels pretty good to be able to do this service for the community to educate the parents and the kids leave safer.”
Organizers say they're happy with the overwhelming turnout.
