Group seeks to help people better understand river importance

By Ray Gomez

It’s the first ever conference of its kind in Laredo and hundreds are joining in to see what it’s all about.

Over 400 organizations including government, educational institutions, and non-profit groups on both sides of the border have teamed up to form an alliance.

The group is called the Rio grande-Rio Bravo Watershed Alliance.

Their main goal is to help others better understand the importance of preserving the river and all of the areas that surround it:

“The Rio Grande is what we drink, or 90% Rio Grande. This allows us to have a voice in protected it.”

The conference was held as a prelude to the 15th anniversary of Dia Del Rio, which will be observed with a celebration at LCC on Saturday.
