Kids' costumes still popular this Halloween, despite rough economy

By Ray Gomez

With an economic downturn, Halloween has been particularly scary for some families this year as they hunt for costumes.

The Spirit store on San Bernardo is one of the hot spots for Halloween costume shopping in Laredo.

Employees say they have seen the number of shoppers coming through their doors increase as consumers try to find their costumes just days before Halloween.

The difference from past years, shoppers seem to be buying supplies to craft their own costumes at home:

"Quite a few people are still buying their costumes, but we do notice a lot more people are buying more makeup and accessories, so probably they are looking to put together their own look that will cost a little bit less."

The most common items being sold at spirit are children’s costumes depicting characters from animated movies.
