United South teen recognized as Youth of the Month

A young lady from United South High School is all smiles.

Vanessa Ortiz is the US Border Patrol Youth of the Month for October.

Friends and family made up the audience at a ceremony in her honor at United South High.

Vanessa is not only at the top of her class, but is also well-rounded in other areas both inside and outside her school

Amongst other things she's in the National Honor Society and cross-country.

Her community service includes being an El Cenizo community volunteer.

Vanessa says she attributes her success to hard work.

After graduation Vanessa plans on attending Rice University in Houston and major in Anthropology.

Following college, she plans on traveling third world countries and providing healthcare to the community.
