Drug Suspect Leads Sheriff's on Chase: 300K Marijuana Bust Made

Sheriff's deputies along with Highway Patrol and a D.P.S. helicopter were all called in after a driver refused to stop on Zapata Highway. It happened Friday afternoon about a half-mile from Rio Bravo. According to the Sheriff's Department, a deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the driver kept going and drove into the brush--knocking down a fence. When his escape plan didn't work, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran. Deputies recovered over 600 lbs. of Marijuana from his S.U.V.; totalling an estimated $300,000 dollars.
