500 pounds of marijuana seized in back-to-back busts

By Ray Gomez

Border Patrol agents seize 500 pounds of marijuana in two separate cases.

Agents at the Laredo south station responded to reports of suspicious activity near the Rio Grande. They found four people carrying large bundles. When the agents identified themselves, the suspects dropped the bundles and swam back to Mexico.

The marijuana weighed in at 280 pounds.

In a second case, agents responded to reports of suspicious activity at a house on Masterson Road.

They performed an immigration inspection on the driver of a truck there, and saw cellophane wrapped bundles lying in the bed of the truck. That marijuana weighed in at 233 pounds.

The driver of the truck was turned over to the DEA.
