Electrical short sends Appraisal employees home early

An electrical short sends employees at the Webb County Appraisal District home early today.

Fire units arrived on the scene after receiving a call about smoke in the office.

Officials say a breaker box shorted out.

Power was shut down in the area as a safety measure.

All computers were shut down and protected:

"We do have a backup system, and the system came into play. we evacuated, basically at this time our electrician's here to evaluate the situation."

Appraisal officials say the office will be closed tomorrow because of Veteran's Day, but a public notice will be sent out informing taxpayers when offices will re-open.
