Well its the murder trial of a 23-year old man that KGNS has followed throughout the week.
The jury coming down with a sentencing late last night.
They remained in deliberations until about 10:30 PM.
That’s when they issued a verdict of 70 years in prison for Fernando Rodriguez Jr.
The same jury found Rodriguez guilty of murdering a 26-year old man back in 2011 on Louisiana Street in the south part of town.
That’s where the victim, Jose Gonzalez, was fatally shot.
The crime vehicle fleeing the scene, then crashing into another car.
Rodriguez’s defense attorneys argued in trial earlier this week that he was too young to know what he was doing and was influenced by those around him.
Today Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz says his office feels justice has been served, and they are pleased with the verdict which is considered a life sentence.
