Firefighters awarded for saving woman's life

By Ray Gomez

Two City of Laredo firefighters were recognized for their bravery as they rescued a lady from the Rio Grande.

Captain Jorge Vasquez and Firefighter Edward Dancause received medals from Fire Chief Steve Landin.
The incident happened back in August when they were called to South Laredo where a woman had been bathing in the Rio Grande and lost her grip and was taken by the current.
Two firefighters were able to pull the woman out of the river to safety.

Steve Landin - Laredo Fire Department
" It's important to recognize the firefighters for doing something heroic. The river waters are very dangerous and it’s very hard to navigate along them."

12 other firefighters who responded to the scene were also recognized in the ceremony.
