High schools offer submissions for Courthouse art contest

By Ray Gomez

The Webb County Courthouse is turning 100, and the work of one local talented young artist will commemorate the milestone.

Today was the final day for submissions in a City-wide art contest held by the Fernando A. Salinas Charitable Trust.

The contest was open to all graduating high school juniors and seniors, with submissions coming in from each high school in both districts.

Organizers were looking for work that reflects the Gateway City’s culture, history and traditions.

The winning piece will be turned into a stained glass window and showcased at the Courthouse, with the artist receiving a four year paid scholarship to LCC and TAMIU.

Trustee Javier Santos will be announcing the winner soon.
