It's a sign of the times: over 13,000 Laredoans lined up this afternoon to get a free Thanksgiving meal, courtesy of HEB. The turnout was the biggest their officials had ever seen. Our Cynthia Cano has more on our top story today.
"The lines to get inside of the Laredo Civic Center for this year's Feast of Sharing wrapped around the building. It's estimated that over 13,000 people showed up to today's event. Officials say it's a sign of these tough economic times. But all the economic hardships seemed to be forgotten, at least for a few hours, as families and friends gathered to celebrate this wondrous occassion. "Really it's just about inviting the citizens of Laredo. It's HEB's way of saying thank you for their patronage. It's a great day of festivity and friendship, so we're just inviting everyone out," said Bob Tellez, Director of Retail Operations at HEB. Coming up on Pro 8 News at Ten, we'll hear what City officials had to say about today's unexpectedly big turnout, and we'll hear from the volunteers who helped make it all possible. Back to you."
