Laredo makes national headlines for Bring the Boys Home campaign

By Ray Gomez

Laredo was recognized for its efforts in bringing home members of the Laredo National Guard.

The soldiers left El Paso, where they are stationed, landing at the Laredo International Airport last night.

The city of Laredo raised money as a part of the Bring The Boys Home campaign working with Southwest Airlines and Farouk Shami, a Houston man who generously wrote a check for the difference.

The efforts to bring these men and women home has reached national headlines:

"I think this morning people heard about Laredo in such a positive way, but more importantly this is about the soldiers, and the great sacrifices they make for this country.”

The soldiers will spend Thanksgiving in Laredo before heading back to El Paso for their deployment.
