Homeless Blame City For Being Cold

By Ray Gomez

Laredo's homeless are out on the streets trying to survive.

Our Noraida Negron spoke to several people who make the streets home and they say the city recently left them with nothing, not even blankets, to face the cold.

Hey that's my blanket....get it out.

You may recall this video we aired a couple of months ago where the City Of Laredo Code Enforcement Department was cleaning up after the homeless, even taking their belongings and blankets.

" They just came and woke up my friend and threw all of his stuff away. Now we don't even have no blankets and its cold out here, the weather is changing."

This is now their temporary home, a place that has been abandoned for a while.

As you can see their only protection from the cold is pieces of carton boxes.

" Tengo frio..man lo se."

Over night the temperatures dropped and according to them it was unbareable.

" Yeah she was crying. My friend had to go get a pair of socks from whoever even he took off the ones he had on. She was crying really bad."

Today they were counting on a local church group to drop by with some help.

" The church people come today, they'll probably going to give us some more blankets. I know we need some more blankets."

Meanwhile others say they will find shelter underneath a bridge or anywhere they can, saying they hope the city of laredo can do more for them.

" It would be nice if they put a shelter closer. Downtown is too far”

" Not to throw our things away...Just give us a warning. Like you have five minutes to take off."

According to the City Of Laredo they haven't done any more cleanups.

The city say they will do the roundups as they received complaints from different businesses or citizens.
