Committee set up for new jail plans

A new committee has been set to prepare plans for a new jail.

After months of investing money to upgrade the Webb County Jail, the Webb County Sheriff's Jail Feasilbility Committee will develop a study for a new jail once the current one becomes obsolete.

Part of the study involves financing the project and the different avenues that the county can choose from:

"This committee will look at different financing options. Different grant opportunities. A grant won't pay for the whole thing but it will ease the cost."

The committee includes representatives from the sheriff's department, commissioner’s court and the private sector.

The project is expected to cost between $50 to one $100 million.
