Many schools in Nuevo Laredo canceled classes because of a lack of students Friday.
Given a threat of violence many parents decided to keep their kids home this week.
At some schools ninety percent of the students were absent.
That's according to an on-line Tamaulipas newspaper.
The state's secretary of education was calling on parents to not panic and send their kids to school, so as not to disrupt classes.
However, many parents thought that was not a good idea.
Turnout at Nuevo Laredo schools has been low since Monday, amongst rumors that cartel members could enter schools to cause harm.
