Overpass Coming to Clark and Loop 20

By KGNS News

In a joint effort between Webb County, the City of Laredo and State Representative Richard Raymond, the area is getting $15.8 million dollars to construct an overpass at the intersection of Clark Blvd and Loop 20.

City Manager Carlos Villarreal says, right now it's one of the areas where there's a lot of stagnant traffic happening."

This is a part of the "Pass Through" project funded by the state where they fund up front costs to local communities.

Raymond say, "it's particularly exciting because there were only 11 projects selected around the state. So for us to be one of them, it's something the people ought to be really happy about."

"We'll have an overpass that will go north, south and basically the traffic will go underneath."

Some citizens are concerned that the money didn't need to be spent, if the loop had been built correctly in the first place.

Monique Godines feels, "If it's a loop there shouldn't be any stop lights, so that people can get to where they are going faster."

Preston Ward, "let's just hope whoever's making that decision is making the best decision and it will have a positive effect on traffic in the area."

The city feels the flow of traffic will be greatly improved with this overpass.

Villarreal, "this will allow traffic to flow freely and pass over one of the most congested areas of the community."

Representative Raymond says construction of the project will be put on the fast track.

"We're going to move fast. I know the County, the City and certainly i am very interested in moving this project quickly. I think you're going to see it on the fast track."
