Two alleged human smugglers are behind bars tonight for apparently holding their victim against his will in a West Laredo motel. Police tell us his fast thinking is what got him help.
Arrested in the case are 20 year old Alfredo Javier Salinas and 22-year-old Angela Brigitt Valdez. They're facing charges of human smuggling in what is said to have escalated into a kidnapping case.
According to investigators, the situation started at around three Thursday afternoon at the Siesta Motel in the 4100 block of San Bernardo.
We're told the suspects were acting as smugglers for the victim, a man from Honduras, but then started demanding more money from his relatives threatening not to release him.
At one point, Valdez left to possibly run errands; during that time, Salinas stepped out of the room.
It was then that the victim quickly got on the phone and dialed 911, telling dispatchers where he was and that he was being held against his will.
When officers went to the scene to investigate, the victim actually ran up to them, saying what had happened.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Webb County Jail without bond.
