After Many Allegations, Schoolteacher Resigns

By KGNS News

An Alexander schoolteacher and former girl’s basketball coach has resigned.
This comes after sexual allegations in two other counties.
UISD officials confirm with KGNS news that Alexander schoolteacher, Javier Reyes has voluntarily resigned, effective February 1.
Reyes was on paid administrative leave since being arrested for a sexual assault charge in early January.
We also learned earlier that Reyes is facing another charge.
This time, he was indicted in Wilson County for indecency with a child with sexual contact.
We hit the streets tonight to find out your thoughts.
Some people told us they think the justice system should play out before making judgment.
"Well innocent until proven guilty, or vice versa. It's a hard call...........It's a really touchy subject; it seems like everywhere you turn everybody is getting accused of something sexual. It's out of hand, it's crazy."
Others thought taking him away from the children was the right thing to do.
"With all the things going on: kids being killed, shooting, sexual misconduct. I think for the sake of children he should have been let go or suspended without pay."
"I would have felt a little worried about my kids going to the same school with the same teacher….. I think the school should have taken action and get rid of the teacher and fire him."
We were the only ones told you that UISD looked into Reyes back in March after an anonymous letter written to the school district sparked an investigation.
We showed you statements from multiple girls made to UISD claiming he made inappropriate comments to them.
Soon after, UISD said Reyes voluntarily resigned only from coaching the girl’s basketball team, citing family reasons.
