With the Independence Day holiday Wednesday, many families are still looking for family activities.
The City of Laredo has celebrations planned for all day tomorrow.
(Victor Villarreal): "Really we get to celebrate at our home, and celebrate with our families."
Victor Villarreal said one of his favorite things on Independence Day is to celebrate with family and the City of Laredo has an all day celebration for Independence Day, starting with a parade at 9 a.m.
(Rene Cardona\float builder and designer): "Last night we spent until two in the morning finishing them up and we were doing details today and they are ready to go."
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and starts at St. Peters Plaza and will end at the Laredo Civic Center, where the rest of the 4th of July activities will take place.
And what is a holiday without food?
Two eating contests will be a popular event.
(Xochitl Mora\City of Laredo spokesperson):"Which is for watermelon, perfect for a hot day for tomorrow and Jell-o and those are two iconic meals for 4th of July."
One of the most anticipated events of the holiday is the rib and brisket cook-off.
This year, contestants will have to cook pork ribs, brisket and beans and they are already setting up outside the civic center.
This year's cook-off brings something new to Laredo.
(Eric Wickstron\Cook-off participant): "Well its Laredo’s first sanctioned cook-off, it's the first time Laredo has done it, which is regulated by judges who come from out of town."
The celebration will continue into the night, as R-communications hosts the first round of a singing competition, La Voz de Laredo, where big money is at steak.
(Sammy 'The House' Ramirez): "It's the 4th of July and everything goes. If you want to register at the last minute, we might just do it. We're kind of crazy like that."
Bands are scheduled to start playing at 6:30 p.m, and the firework show will begin at 10 p.m.
"And it's only a dollar suggested donation fee and it will be donated to the South Texas Food Bank to enjoy all of those activities."
Besides the $1 suggested donation, there will be an additional charge for tickets to see the bands play, headlining Grupo Duelo.
If the tickets are bought before 5 p.m. Wednesday, prices will be $15 per ticket.
The price at the door will be $20.
