The number of deaths of undocumented immigrants trying to come into the country illegally is up, but so are the numbers of rescues.
Border patrol officials say the Laredo Sector saw 289 rescues so far this year.
A total of 89 people died during that same time frame, either attempting to cross the border or while trying to get further into the United States.
Border Patrol says extreme heat is usually to blame for the deaths.
Officials say the danger for undocumented immigrants begins when they leave their homes, but they don't realize the true scope of the obstacles that lie ahead.
