Here in Laredo we currently have two carnivals in town and we visited one of them to find out what things are in place to make sure tragedies like what happened in North Carolina don't happen here.
The Pride of Texas Shows Inc. is one of the carnivals in town has been coming to Laredo since 1967. Equipped with twenty-one thrilling rides, the carnival has rides for all ages to enjoy. Earlier this week in North Carolina a ride malfunctioned injuring five. So what things are in place to make sure this won't happen here?

Carnival owner, Doug Barton has been in the business for over thirty years and according to him not only does his crew check these rides but they are inspected by building code inspectors as well; all in order to make sure everything’s up to code.

Depending on the size of the ride, the inspections may need a team of people to check it. Every ride is different and operates by using a variety of moving parts. The safety checklist is different for every ride and touches on all sorts of things that may need to be looked at.

According to owner of the carnival I visited today, they are the 5th safest carnival in the United States and have never had any problems with any of their rides.... And they plan to keep it that way. For KGNS, I'm James Johnson.
