A Laredo firefighter is injured battling an early morning blaze.
Laredo fire investigators are trying to determine what led to the fire that destroyed a central Laredo home.
“Firefighters spent much of the day here at this home, but neighbors say this is a much calmer scene than what they saw early this morning.”
One Laredo firefighter was injured this morning in what was described to be a very intense blaze.
Firefighters were called out to this house on Okane just after five and arrived to thick smoke, large flames and worried neighbors.
“Early in the morning it was a really strong smell. we went to see what was going on. we saw firetrucks blocking the whole area.”
“We were very mindful to have our things ready in case we needed to evacuate.”
And as the sun came up, neighbors were able to see just how bad the damage is. They say they watched as that roof collapsed.
“The good thing is that nobody got hurt.”
We were there as family members saw the damage for themselves.
“I wanted to cry when i saw it.”
A relative of the homeowners says the husband and wife were out of town for wedding.
But some family members staying at the home heard the alarm go off.
“He put off the alarm and all of sudden ashes came down. he got everyone out of the house and called the fire department.”
The people and two dogs were saved but family mementos were not.
“The photo albums. the personal papers. the collections they had from their parents and grandparents.”
“its a total total complete loss.”
Fire investigators are trying to determine was sparked the fire.
The firefighter who was injured suffered only minor injuries.
He's expected to be back at work soon.
An investigation is underway.
