The City Manager has appointed an interim chief of police. Assistant Chief Gilberto Navarro has been appointed interim chief of the Laredo Police Department until the city can office hire a new one. Chief Navarro has been with the Laredo Police Department for 33 years. He served as the interim chief in 2007 before the appointment of Carlos Maldonado.
In a statement from the Laredo Police Department Navarro is quoted as saying he wants to assure the public that police operations and services have not and will not be affected in any way. Former Chief Carlos Maldonado retired this week.
