The slot machine businesses, or better known as eight-liners here in Laredo, may have to cough up some more change to the city if they want to stay in business. The building services department will propose Monday at city chambers to increase permit fees for the slot machines. The building services department is proposing a $150 increase in permit fees per machine towards the city’s general fund. "This increase is being generated to actually not only bring in more revenue for the city of Laredo, which is the actual thing that we want to do." From $400 per machine to $550 a machine is what is proposed. The additional money is expected to generate $750,000 for the city of Laredo. "This is part of the annual budget that is being proposed and that’s the main reason that it will increase and generate additional revenue for the city of Laredo.” City council will vote on the increase Monday night at the city council meeting. If it passes, the increase will have to go through the final reading. It will then take 60 days to go into affect.
