“I think there’s something else behind them being here. Its not just training of Border Patrol. There’s something else behind it,” says Laredoan Janie DeLa Rosa.
Something else behind this.
That’s what’s been on many Laredoans’ mind since the arrival of these helicopters that are now hovering in our area, pretty much everyday.
Even though the government has already addressed that military personnel from the joint task force, based at fort bliss, is cross training with customs and border protection.
But now their presence appearing to increase, with about 20 choppers at the airport today, massive tents, and even some tanks. There’s no doubt that could spark curiosity.
“I think it’s more than that. Why would they train on our border if they can train anywhere else in Texas, and no one would find out about it,” says another woman who asked not to be on camera.
A spokesperson in Washington this afternoon stuck by the previous statement saying no specific incident caused the operation, and that CBP continues providing training for military personnel. In turn providing intelligence for Border Patrol and enhancing abilities to counter threats on the border.
Overall causing a presence of security, and that’s something Laredoans on the streets do agree with.
“I think its great. More involvement, we need stuff like that happening.”
“Watching the helicopters fly over Laredo, Texas it’s good thing. Because, if anyone has something that’s not good on their mind, they’ll think twice, because of the security in Laredo, Texas,” says Pepito Espinoza.
And with the ongoing threat of the drug war in Nuevo Laredo, Delio Granados also agrees.
“We’ve been seeing activity across the border from Mexican helicopters we need to do our part to protect our border.”
