A New York department store is taking some heat for an ad that features some Disney characters looking like run way models. It's a topic that's hitting home, not only with Laredo parents but Laredo kids as well. Some parents aren't happy with Minnie Mouse's new figure. So we spoke to some parents and the possibility of how the new image can change children's perspective of whats beautiful. Millions of children own them, millions of parents buy them, and most of us have played with them at one time or another. So why should we care about the messages toys convey about femininity, masculinity or the ideal body for men and women. Parent Luis Dominguez said, "it may interfere in how they think or what they want to be in the future but if you change the perspective for the kids then yeah they get influenced." For decades the Barbie doll has received a lot of criticism about her unattainable figure and now Barney's New York an upscale clothing store has partnered up with Disney and is taking some heat for their depiction in a short video of some Disney characters. Idonia Dominguez says the new depiction doesn't make a difference to her, "there both pretty and their the same character, I don't care that it's different." While Barney's New York assures the public that Minnie is empowered throughout the video and Disney will stand by with the store saying the concept that was intended has been taken out of context. Barney's new campaign is called the electric holiday and the display will be unveiled on November 14th.
