Families Commemorate Dia De Los Muertos

Today marks a very important day for many faithful throughout Mexico and around the world.
Dia De Los Muertos, or day of the dead, is being celebrated by families visiting local cemeteries.
With music, flowers and prayers, people like Gretatl Vasquez marked the day of the dead at cemeteries surrounded by friends and family.
“we came to see my grandpa its been a long time since we've seen him.”
Her grandfather died when she was only four years old.
Today she has come to spend time with him.
“we brought him a cross and we pray.”
“its a prayer for the day of the dead. for the respect. that we're here for them.”
In Mexican culture day of the dead gathers family and friends to pray for and remember those who have died.
It is customary to even take gifts, food and beverages to the grave site to offer to those who have passed on.
Margarita Escamilla is visiting her son who died three years ago.
She says she comes here as often as she can.. but today is special.
the emotion is noticeable in her voice.
For her the tradition is important.
A tradition young people like Gretal vow to continue.
“I wanna always be there with my family. with my grandpa and always bring family together. You have to visit them love them. even though they're not here.”
"Dia De Los Muertos" is a two day celebration.
Yesterday marked the day of the innocents, in which people honored children who have died.
