The small, peaceful town of Hebbronville was disturbed in the early morning hours on Saturday.
What friends and family describe as a party gone wrong, 20-year-old Robert Lopez was stabbed in this yard, in his chest, and was killed.
(Family member): "The van we messed it up this weekend.”
(Family member): "The dog shows...I miss him."
Robert's family shares their emotional memories with me. He leaves behind his two kids, and has another one due any day now.
Arrested is this man, Steven Tyler Escobar, who came to the Sheriff’s office after this had happened.
(Reyes Espinoza\Chief investigator): "At that moment he was just trying to report that he had been assaulted and involved in an altercation."
Officers soon learned he was involved in a murder. They arrested him for one count of murder and one count of tampering with evidence for trying to hide the weapon used in the homicide.
Robert's brother tells me he and Escobar were very close friends are still not sure what could have started the fight.
"It's the first homicide I've seen here in a while."
There will be a plate-sale benefit for Robert’s family on Saturday in Hebbronville across from Bryan’s Stop and Shop store. .
The family will be there until they sell-out on plates.
