A family in Mirando city is grief stricken after their 16 year old takes his life.
Understandably, they did not want to speak on camera because they are so saddened.
But they do think his story is very important and wanted it to be told.
Our Lauren Kendrick has that story from Bruni.
It's our top story at five.
"The small community where the freshman boy went to school is still trying to understand why he took his life on Wednesday."
Bruni High School lost one of its own in a tragic incident. We're told 16 year old Oscar Cruz took his own life.
"Immediately when we heard what happened, many of us went to the hospital in Laredo and spent time there with the family."
Superintendent Sanchez says this tragedy has really shaken up the small town. She recalls his daily activities on Wednesday saying he was at school all day and even attended church that night.
"He was at the church services and then he went home and only he knows. nobody will know what happened. only he knows what happened and what drove him to that."
"Everybody has grown up together here. Parents, aunts, unlces. We're very very united. It has hit home. It's been very very sad."
Although the family is grieving the loss of Oscar and do not want to be on camera, they did show us the bow placed on the family store and the pictures they have of him on display.
A family tells us off camera that Oscar's father passed away three months ago and he hasn't been the same. But they feel that isn't the reason he took his life.
"There is a teacher involved...in question."
Calls came into our newsroom claiming the ninth grader was having an inappropriate relationship with a 26 year old female teacher at Bruni High School. Again the family did not want to comment because they say there is an investigation going on. We asked the superintendent to address the rumors of the relationship between the teacher and Oscar.
"Because it's a matter that's being investigated...I would comment if I was able to, but it's under investigation."
The teacher in question was suspended pending the investigation. Oscar will be laid to rest on Monday in Mirando city where he lived with his sister, aunt, and uncle.
