Not everyone has a fan or air conditioning in his or her home. That's why your good neighbor station, KGNS, teamed up with Catholic Social Services to help provide fans for those less fortunate.
This after the Catholic Social Services received lots of requests for fans. Members of the media from KGNS and Telemundo braved the heat as well to raise money from motorists.
“Today the bishop and the staff at Catholic Social Services, along with many volunteers are standing hear at the corner of Delmar and Springfield in the heat, so that others in our community especially the elderly and the children may not suffer through the heat of this summer. We are having a fan drive, so that the people of Laredo might respond with their generosity to help others in need", says Bishop James Tamayo.
With the help of the efforts of the many motorists on Del Mar Boulevard Saturday afternoon, the fan drive raised about $1,400. That will help purchase fans for those members of our community who need them.
