Early this morning police canvassed the area of a North Laredo neighborhood on Puig Drive in search of evidence or witnesses that can help them determine what happened before a man was shot and killed in front of this home.
“Whether this was a domestic situation, or this was some sort of falling out with people who knew each other, a random shooting related to alcohol or drugs. Right now that's what detectives are trying to do, trying to corroborate their means of the normal investigative process,” says LPD Spokesperson Joe Baeza.
Police have not released the name of the deceased, or that of a second victim they tell us was grazed by a bullet. He was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
It’s the first homicide for our city this year, but at this point police have not named a suspect.
“Right now no one has been charged. There hasn’t been anyone named officially. There is no known suspect or anything else.”
What they can confirm is that in the past several weeks in this usually calm neighborhood two other shooting incidents have occurred. One drive by where vehicles were reported damaged, and another case of shots fired into the air.
No one injured until today's third shooting incident resulting in a fatality.
“There probably is some sort of relation by looking at the relation to the vehicle damage. In the exact location and the fact that the person was shot in that same location today. So detectives are trying to piece those two important events spanning in a few weeks,” says Baeza.
