Father's day is a day to honor dads for all they do.
But for those whose father's have passed on, it's a bittersweet day.
Our Lauren Kendrick has more in this story.
Looking around the cemeteries in Laredo, it's easy to see the love for those family and friends who are no longer here. Grave sites are turned into celebrations with family members fondly remembering the good times with those loved ones. Across the street there are flower shops ready to sell flowers, something one vendor says is not uncommon.
"This goes on every year. It's a tradition here in Laredo."
Ramos says customers have been steadily packing the street since 10 a.m, many he says are emotional when picking out the perfect flower arrangement to place on the grave site. That's what pushes him to offer these services each year.
"We do it for them. Everybody does it. They need to take it to their loved ones."
Of those who came to pay their respects, perhaps no one traveled as far as Nidia West.
"I was born and raised in Laredo, but I live out of state and I come once a year."
Nidia West who's afraid to fly, traveled by bus from South Carolina to the gateway city. She plans her yearly trip here so she can be present for father's day.
"I was happy to be here for father's day. I'm going to place the flowers and say a special prayer for him."
West says although her father was killed when she was just an infant, his memory lives on through her family members.
"I'm the youngest, so the three oldest remember him. I really don't but it's just the memories."
