A former juvenile supervision officer is out on bond following his arrest for online solicitation of a minor.
We here at Pro 8 News felt it was extremely important to inform you about this individual who is still around young people.
We were the first to tell you about his arrest.
Now our Annette Garcia continues our coverage and the sting operation by the county they say is meant to keep men like him away from your kids.
Pro 8 News was first to tell you last Friday about this man, 42-year-old Steven Villarreal, the former juvenile supervision officer who was arrested last week for online solicitation of a minor.
“These guys are lurking around and have no shame.”
The Sheriff now says the former officer was caught through an undercover sting carried out by deputies posing as teenagers on the Internet.
Villarreal faces two to ten years in prison for the crime.
“Anybody who works for government or works for law enforcement agency or has a license for a peace officer, I believe has a higher responsibility and should be held to a higher standard. Its the ultimate breach of trust when you have someone who betrays the badge and betrays the trust.”
But Villarreal could be in more trouble.
We've learned a report was filed against Villarreal earlier this year for allegedly harassing teenagers by sending inappropriate text messages.
Sources tell us that case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
“I encourage the public the viewers of KGNS if you feel someone has crossed the line please come forward and report it. Just because a case is closed doesn’t mean it can’t be revisited.”
