The Society of Martha Washington unveiled the costumes that will be worn by the couple portraying the First Lady of the Land and President George Washington today. This viewing took place earlier this afternoon at the J.C. Martin residence, with Betty Bunn Moreno and Francis Cullen Averill displaying these authentic costumes. We spoke to the renowned designer Linda Gutierrez about the process behind creating these pieces. She tells us they have been a work in progress since March of last year.
All work is hand stitched with about eight people working on Martha Washington’s dress. "I love each one and each one has its own pattern cut specifying for each person so that's a blessing god has given me to be able to cut that way because that's why they always fit so beautifully. I just make each one with their own pattern."
Gutierrez has been designing costumes for the occasion since 1975.
