During this Easter holiday, many undocumented immigrants will try to reunite with family from Mexico living in the U.S..
While their illegal entry into this country can include many modes of transportation, one of the most dangerous is trains. This week border patrol agents stationed in Cotulla, encountered 18 subjects during a routine freight train inspection.
Berin Salas, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent, says “The box trailer was being transported on a flat rail car when a border patrol service canine alerted to the presence of contraband, or concealed humans.”
Since the trailer was locked, no one could not get out without outside help. What's more, there was very little ventilation. The agents quickly broke off the bolt that was used to lock the trailer. The subjects were immediately evaluated by the agents and all declined medical attention.
A total of 14 Mexican nationals, two Honduran nationals and two Guatemalan nationals were apprehended and processed by the agents.
