Tuesday morning, kids learned a little more about the golden rule. The month of October recognizes bullying prevention awareness month and over at Borchers Elementary, kids kicked off the week with a 'Kindness Rally.' Kids in each grade level stood before their peers telling why they will stand up to bullies. Kids also learned new ways to walk away from the bully. Ryan Cerna, a 5th grade students, says, "You should be sarcastic with them it's a kind of humor that could make the bully stop." According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, bullying can be verbal, physical, or through the Internet. It can severely affect the victim's self-image, social interactions, and school performance, often leading to insecurity, lack of self-esteem, and depression. School dropout rates and absences among victims of bullying are much higher than among other students.
