Local automotive technicians will no longer have to travel to get certified.
Our Lauren Kendrick visited Laredo Community College south campus and has that story.
"Businesses don't have to provide the means for technicians to travel to San Antonio or the valley to do a test that is now being done here."
Department chair of the technicians department at LCC south, Fortunato Aldape is happy to announce the national institute for automotive service excellence have teamed up to give local technicians an easier way to become certified.
"Recently LCC at south campus has provided the designation as a testing sight."
The diesel curriculum at LCC provides a tremendous amount of training for the trucking industry.
It's one of their biggest programs.
"After completing the curriculum, anyone with two years experience in the automotive repair business can become ASE certified."
"Not only our students, but any ASE certified mechanic that needs to go through the re-certification process."
Dean of LCC south, Luciano Ramon says this will help boost the local economy in the long run.
"That also will lead into higher paying jobs for these students."
