"We're seeing the trend. It's actually...the demand is really high right now. In fact, people are buying homes faster than we can build them."
Sales manager of Westwind homes, Lance Price, responds to a recent national report showing the housing development across the U.S is the best it has been in the past four years. Price says that's exactly the case here in Laredo.
"The dwindling amount of lots out there. A lot of people are coming in. The appetite to buy is really good."
In the Escondido neighborhood, Price says there are just a handful of lots left.
"We started off with about 160 lots and now we're down to about 15."
Westwind sales consultant says there's one particular area that is the desired place for many in the gateway city to live, right next to academy off of Loop 20.
"The schools and all the restaurants are close by. they want to be over there. It's a hot area."
They feel the increase has something to do with the oil boom. Many people working in the area are choosing to buy a home instead of stay at hotels for an extended period of time. They say there have been more building permits. In fact, in May there were 43 building permits and in just a month, that's jumped to 70 in June.
"Ramirez says more homes are being built by people who are tired of renting and want to own their own home."
"Most of my customers are first time buyers. They're tired of renting and they want to have an investment."
And as for what the future of Laredo's housing market looks like, they say it looks very bright.
"Laredo's growing and there's going to be more houses to be built."
