Laredoans Head To Church To Honor Virgin Mary

Hundreds of people have been heading to Church today to pay tribute to the Virgin Mary.
Today marks 'El Dia De La Virgen', a very important day in Mexican culture.
And it's a day that involves the entire family.
Children and adults honored the virgin mary as is tradition in mexican culture.
December 12th, recognized as 'El Dia De La Virgen' is the day the blessed woman appeared to Juan Diego.
The day is an important one for parishioners.
“One through our Mexican culture that she appeared to San Juan and asked him to build a church. and two because she is our mother and she is our true mother.”
The story has been passed through generations.
Mother and fathers teaching their children to honor her too.
“It is a big family a family affair I've seen lots of parents coming in with kids and going and adoring our Virgin Mary.”
Villarreal says Mary is someone to have faith in.
“She is the one that gives us the peace and tranquility that we need in life.”
That mass took place at Our Lady of Guadalupe church but other celebrations are taking place across the city.
