Laredoans React To Scandal Surrounding Pope

By KGNS News

It's been a few weeks since the pope announced his resignation.
Now there are reports of a scandal the pope may be involved in.
Our Lauren Kendrick has that story.
It's our top story at five.
Allegations involving gay priests, male prostitutes and blackmail are a few of the items the Vatican is trying to clear up before the pope resigns.
We hit the streets to see if people think this scandal has something to do with the pope resigning.
Two weeks ago, the Pope announced he would be stepping down. Saying he was too old, frail, and tired to continue. Many people were shocked because he was the first to resign in 598 years.
"I would say to each their own. We do have to be careful who we choose to represent as role models for our children and for our children and for our families."
She goes on to say give this advice.
"Just remember that he is a man and everyone makes mistakes."
But not everyone believes news of the scandal played a part in his resignation.
"In my opinion, I just think he's getting a little tired and just wants to rest. nothing with scandals or anything like that."
Many people chose not to speak to us on camera because Laredo is predominately catholic. They did not want to ruffle any feathers with their opinion. For another woman we spoke to, the thought of the leader of the roman catholic church being involved with scandal just is too hard to believe.
"He wanted people to point out his mistakes. He wouldn't want something like that to be pointed out. So I don't think that's the reason for him resigning."
She goes on to say he said when he was first named pope that he would never do anything to let the people down.
Thursday will be the pope's final day. They hope to have a new pope in place by Easter.
