Local Health Officials Warm About Influenza A

By KGNS News

Laredo health officials say a new wave of the flu could hit hard in the coming months.
And they're asking everyone in our community to get a flu shot soon.
It may be a little scary for the kids but officials say getting a flu shot is important and kids and adults need one now.
“The one symptom that people should watch out for is mainly fever headaches chills.”
Health officials are worried about Influenza Type A, a more aggressive flu strain that’s showing up in taxes early this year.
“We have begin to see a little bit of that in north central Texas already.”
Laredo was recently hit with a wave of flu type B and the Health Department had less cases this year than last.
But that's not what they expect for type A and are anticipating a large number of those cases.
Unless people get their flu shot.
“Prevention is really the key to success and it has proven to be successful in the Laredo area especially.”
The flu can cause serious issues of young children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and diabetics.
Influenza A peaks in January and February.
“There’s still plenty of time and we encourage everyone to get the influenza immunization.”
